Broken Capillaries

Broken capillaries are commonly found on the cheeks or nose area these appear as small red or pink threads under the skin’s surface. Broken capillaries occur when the capillary walls narrow and widen too quickly causing the muscles in the walls to tear. This in turn allows the blood to seep out resulting in broken capillaries.

Suggested Treatments

Causes

Common causes of broken capillaries can include: hot or cold conditions, wind blowing on the face, sunburns, moving from one extreme temperature to another, age and thinning skin and continuous pressure on your skin (i.e.: where your glasses sit on your face). Also, straining or an injury can cause broken capillaries as well as alcohol consumption. Dehydrated, dry and sensitive skin is often thin, which provides less protection and therefore, these skin types can be the most commonly effected.

Commonly Asked Questions

  • I have many small red dots around the edge of both of my nostrils. They have been there for a long time and it is very hard to cover them up with makeup – could these be broken capillaries?
  • Without seeing you in person it is difficult to say for certain, but from your description it does sound like they are broken capillaries. The great news is that if you would like to have them resolved our procedures can produce amazing results that can leave you not needing makeup to cover up the affected area.
